Easter Egg Dying

The night before Easter we headed over to Tosha and Justin's to dye eggs. We did this last year and had a blast, so we knew we would not be disappointed this year. Addison had so much fun playing and being creative with the eggs with Avery. They made some pretty awesome masterpieces with their eggs. As for Avett, he had fun exploring, dying a few eggs...by splashing them into the dye, and watching the storm roll in with Pop (oh yea and making some great funny faces). Great night with awesome friends and family!

Classroom Easter Egg Hunt

Addison had a blast on her classroom egg hunt. The kids were able to wear their bunny ears and the way they had to hunt for their eggs was based on a number system. Each kid in the class was given a number that was written on 12 eggs. 12 eggs x 21 students = 252 eggs. It was hard work hunting for her number 6, but they all worked together and when they found a friends number they called to one another so that they could get it! I was so thankful to be able to watch and partake in the festivities for her class. I really wanted to be a part of Avett's hunt but leaving work was a hard thing to do that day and also, it is very hard to attend his events at this stage in his life because he does not want to do anything except have me hold him and create a big scene when I leave. The teacher sent photos of him hunting eggs and holding a real bunny (I accidentally trashed them in my email..bad bad mommy). I know that he had a wonderful time and really enjoyed opening his eggs at home to find his candy!

Lubbock Arts Festival

Addison was invited by her Dance company to perform in the Arts Festival with some of the other girls in her class. The intention of the dance was to showcase how young girls are learning how to dance and to try and get new dancers involved in the company. The dance that Addison did was taught to her in class the previous week one time, so it was not a known dance at all (I think that was the point of it). They had the head dance instructor Mrs. Carla teach them the dance before the music came on in front of the audience and then they did it all together with the music.I think the girls did a great job for not really knowing the dance and sticking with it! We also had the opportunity to go and explore at the arts festival. There were so many beautiful pieces of art and fun arts and crafts activities for the kids. Addison was able to make a lion, a friendship bracelet, and decorate a cupcake. IT will definitely be on our list of things to do for next year and get Avett involved in more of the arts and crafts!

All About Penguins

A couple of weeks ago, Addison was able to go on a field trip to the Science Spectrum with all the kindergartners at Smith. They were studying ocean animals and there was a great live animal exhibit of penguins and an I MAX movie and so it ended up being perfect for their class. They started out with the movie. Addison and I were sitting next to one of the boys in the class that had never been to an I MAX before and he was quite frightened. Addison was very sweet and such a good friend, she leaned over and told him how fun it was and throughout the entire movie she held his hand. The kids then got to go in to see the real penguins and explore all the fun interactive displays that dealt with the penguins. There were four penguins on display to watch. They saw them eat and hang out. After, the kids brought sack lunches to eat and then they had fun exploring the rest of the science spectrum until time to go back to school. I was so glad that I was able to go with her and experience this with her and her class.
On a side note-Midway through the movie, Addison turned very pale and started complaining heavily about her ear hurting, I thought maybe the movie was just too loud, but she ended up complaining the entire field trip about her ear and she was in a lot of pain. I attempted multiple times to take her right away to the doctor after the movie, but it was a no go. She was insistent on staying with her class to finish it out....while complaining!! I continually checked on her and reasked about leaving, but I failed at that. In the mean time I made an appointment for the doctor right after the trip and got her in (double ear infection).
