4th of July

We had a wonderful time for the 4th of July! We started with a trip over to the 4th on Broadway parade. The kids had donuts to munch on and they enjoyed seeing all of the different cars, trucks, animals, and people walking by. Fire trucks, candy, and the Masked Rider were among the favorites! We then headed over to the Tech pool to cool off for a bit. We enjoyed a nice picnic and some fun family swimming time. The Horsley's were the end of our 4th of July celebration activities. We went over there where they had a pools, a giant slip and slide, golf cart rides, yummy food, good friends, and a load of fireworks from their house and all around throughout the neighborhood. We really enjoyed ourselves!

Fun Day at Smith

At the end of school, the kids have a great celebration to end the year and enjoy some fun free time! At Smith, this means bouncy houses, lots of sugary foods, face paintings, and games. Unfortunately, on our fun day it rained all day long which meant moving the festivities indoors. It was hot, sweaty, stinky, and crazy...but the kids LOVED it! Addison stuck with one of her great buddies, Lainey, through the whole day and they had a blast. Thomas had the luxury of sticking with her class and being a volunteer and I joined in here and there when I could escape from my room. Lots of fun was had and hopefully next year we will be able to do our fun day outdoors.

Tubes and Adenoids

I know that Avett had this surgery a while ago, but I am still trying to play catch up with all my blogs and sharing our photos! This has to be one of my favorites photos of my sweet boy and I. This was before they took him back for surgery to get his tubes done for a 2nd time and to take out his adenoids. We were trying to keep him calm and contained while his "silly juice" kicked in by snuggling and playing on the ipad. He ended up taking the ipad back with him into the surgery room to help with the anesthetic procedure. He did a fantastic job in surgery, it was very much needed (according to the doctor) and we have been a healthy man ever since. We start back to daycare in a couple of weeks and we are praying, keeping our fingers crossed, and doing anything else we can to keep good luck on our side for a healthy boy!!

Singing in the rain

We have had some wonderful rain this summer in Lubbock! It has been a summer that has been so enjoyable and we have had the opportunity to be outside and play more than we ever have had. After a great rain one night, after driving in from Midland, the kids were able to have some fun in the rain water that lingered on the sidewalk for awhile. They had a great time!

Swim Lessons

The kids had another really great session of swim lessons.
Addison moved up to level 2, which taught her more floating techniques,to improve and perfect her swimming strokes, and to become more comfortable swimming down to deeper levels while holding her breath. She did amazing! We got her some goggles and she has been on a roll diving in the water and playing with diving toys. She of course loves her diving board, so as we do every year we had to get a video of her jumping off. She has become so much more confident than she was last year, and I didn't think that could happen because she rocked last summer!
As for Avett, he continued in his parent and me class. Thomas and I flip flopped everyday to swim with him. He worked on being comfortable in the water, jumping with a parent, kicking and scooping his arms, blowing bubbles, laying on his back, and the dreaded going underwater (he is not a fan right now). He really did great compared to last year. The last week of last years swim lessons was pretty much pointless. He was not interested in being in the water and held on to me for the whole 30 minutes. He really did participate a lot this year and now gets so excited to swim and asks us everyday to go to the Texas Tech pool.
You can tell by the pictures that by the end of each lesson they were both worn out and looking disheveled. That is a good thing! They worked hard. They also had a great reward on the last week of swim lessons when the Masked Rider came out and let the kids pet the horse and take pictures.

Baby Face

At the beginning of June, Addison had her dance recital. She did such an amazing job and had a great time with her friends Lainey and Ava in her class. They did a tape dance to the song, "Baby Face". All of the girls in her class worked so hard! We were very proud of all of them and especially Addison. We practiced sooo much with her and by the end Avett even know some of the moves and the song. This will be the last year that we will be with The Dance Gallery. We really have enjoyed being there, but Addison has not been very thrilled with tapping. She says it shakes up her tummy..lol. Anyways, so are new move is going to be Ballet Lubbock, which is strictly ballet. We have an evaluation this upcoming week to see how much ballet she knows, which unfortunately is not much (The Dance Gallery primarily focused on tap with about 15 minutes of ballet a class). Once we have the evaluation they will tell us which class will work best for her. We have talked about this with Addison and we are doing this move to promote what she likes doing, but she is not 100% keen on it. So....we are giving it a year to decide if we are a yes or a no for dance. Who knows? We are just proud of her for trying it and we are here for her to help her and guide her into a choice that will become a life hobby and something she can enjoy for years to come.

Sorry about the very bright light of the video, that is the best that I could do (we could only tape during rehearsal and they had all lights going). To help you out, Addison is the fifth girly on the right of the stage.
