School Announcements

Every class at Smith is given the opportunity to go down with the principal or assistant principal to say the pledges on the loudspeaker. Addison's class was a couple of weeks ago and thankfully, I was able to run down there and catch her in the act! I am having so much fun being able to be a part of these wonderful school memories that Addison is having! It has been so worth her being at my school!

Star of the Week

At Smith, every child gets the opportunity to be the "Star of the Week" to celebrate being a great Smith Star and to celebrate their birthday. We do not do an actual celebration on the child's birthday but instead we invite parents to bring goody bags and treats for their Star Party. Addison's star party was luckily pretty close to her birthday. When you are the star of the week you get to have many privileges in the classroom: you bring an awesome poster that is displayed all week, line leader, bucket carrier, calendar helper, and over all helper for the week. It is pretty exciting stuff!! On Wednesday, in Mrs. Grimshaw's class, they always have their star party. At the party, they get to sit in the middle of everyone and eat the goodies that parents bring and you get to present the poster that you brought at the beginning of the week, which after the students get to ask the star any question they would like. Addison brought cupcakes that we baked in ice cream cones, capri suns, and a goodie bag filled with fruit snacks, bubbles, and a fun swirly straw. She was such a great star and it really was a highlight of the year for her!

Easter Egg Dying

The night before Easter we headed over to Tosha and Justin's to dye eggs. We did this last year and had a blast, so we knew we would not be disappointed this year. Addison had so much fun playing and being creative with the eggs with Avery. They made some pretty awesome masterpieces with their eggs. As for Avett, he had fun exploring, dying a few eggs...by splashing them into the dye, and watching the storm roll in with Pop (oh yea and making some great funny faces). Great night with awesome friends and family!

Classroom Easter Egg Hunt

Addison had a blast on her classroom egg hunt. The kids were able to wear their bunny ears and the way they had to hunt for their eggs was based on a number system. Each kid in the class was given a number that was written on 12 eggs. 12 eggs x 21 students = 252 eggs. It was hard work hunting for her number 6, but they all worked together and when they found a friends number they called to one another so that they could get it! I was so thankful to be able to watch and partake in the festivities for her class. I really wanted to be a part of Avett's hunt but leaving work was a hard thing to do that day and also, it is very hard to attend his events at this stage in his life because he does not want to do anything except have me hold him and create a big scene when I leave. The teacher sent photos of him hunting eggs and holding a real bunny (I accidentally trashed them in my email..bad bad mommy). I know that he had a wonderful time and really enjoyed opening his eggs at home to find his candy!
